ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 10. The volume of Kazakhstan's external debt amounted to $162.5 billion as of April 1, 2024, Trend reports.

According to the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK), since the beginning of 2024, the amount of debt has decreased by $200 million.

Since the beginning of 2024, external debt has decreased due to value, exchange rate and other changes by $500 million, with an increase in balance of payments transactions by $300 million.

In the structure of Kazakhstan’s external debt by original maturity, 88.2 percent is long-term (over 1 year) external debt, which, on the one hand, minimizes liquidity risks, and on the other, increases the impact of changes in general market conditions on debt repayment and servicing.

The structure of Kazakhstan's external debt by type of financial instrument is dominated by loans and borrowings attracted from non-residents (74.2 percent) and debt securities held by non-residents (8.3 percent).

Furthermore, Kazakhstan's economic growth amounted to 5.1 percent in 2023. Last year, the volume of investments in fixed capital increased by 13.7 percent and amounted to $39.5 billion, while over the first nine months of 2023, $19.7 billion of foreign direct investment was attracted.
