ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 24. The government of Kazakhstan has allocated 2.9 billion tenge (about $6.1 million) to complete the construction of an emergency overpass in Petropavlovsk, Trend reports.

According to the government, the project is vital for the city, as the existing overpass, built in 1961, is in disrepair.

The railway divides the city into two parts, and the road overpass along Karavannaya Street serves about 16,000 cars daily, providing transport and pedestrian connections between the districts and the regional center.

"Carrying out repair work on this overpass without restricting traffic is impossible due to its small dimensions and high intensity of traffic flow, which can create inconvenience for city residents. In this regard, it was decided to build a new overpass along Universal Street, which will be built in parallel with the existing one," the government said.

The total cost of the project is 5.9 billion tenge (about $12.4 billion), part of which was allocated from the local budget.

Meanwhile, road repair and construction work will cover 12,000 kilometers in Kazakhstan in 2024. Of these roads, 8,000 kilometers are republican, and 4,000 kilometers are local.

To date, 13 international transport corridors have been formed and are in operation in Kazakhstan, including 5 railways and 8 roads.

Over the last decade, Kazakhstan's transportation and logistics infrastructure has received an investment of about $30 billion.

Furthermore, over the next five years, a whopping 40 billion euros will be required to carry out significant transportation infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan.
