BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 5. The number of Elcard national payment system cards in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 3,472,419, accounting for 50.4 percent of all cards in circulation, as of January 1, 2024, Trend reports.
According to the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, the figure increased by 15 percent compared to the 3,011,260 cards recorded on January 1, 2023.
Of these cards, 3,467,770 are Elcard cards (comprising 50.3 percent of the total number of cards in circulation), while Elcard-UPI cards amount to 4,649 (0.1 percent).
The total number of bank payment cards in circulation in Kyrgyzstan exceeded 6.89 million cards as of January 1, 2024. Compared to the same period last year, the number of cards increased by 31.6 percent. Cards from international systems constituted 49.6 percent of the total, totaling 3.417 million cards.
In terms of regions, over half of the cards were in the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, representing 50.9 percent of the total, or 3.506 million cards.
As of December 31, there were 23 commercial banks and 320 branches of commercial banks operating in the country.
