Kyrgyzstan reports increase in industrial production

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 10. Industrial production in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 280.4 billion soms ($3.2 billion), which is a 0.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistical Committee of the country, the growth in industrial production was largely driven by a 1.7-times increase in refined petroleum products, a 31.7 percent rise in wood and paper products, and a boost in printing activities.

Additionally, production of food products (including beverages) and tobacco increased by 20 percent, while pharmaceutical products grew by 20.8 percent. Rubber, plastics, and construction materials saw a 10.3 percent rise, and textile and apparel production grew by 7.2 percent.

However, the sector also faced challenges, with a 12.3 percent decrease in basic metal production and a 4.5 percent decline in mineral extraction.

To note, industrial production amounted to 482.801 billion soms ($5.398 billion) in Kyrgyzstan last year, which is 9 percent higher than in 2022.
