BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 7. The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has thrown its hat in the ring to lend a helping hand with technical assistance for the Automated Traffic Management System (ATMS) project in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports via the Mayor's Office of the city.

According to the Bishkek city administration, KOICA will provide assistance for the project, with an initial phase worth $2 million and a second phase valued at $8 million.

Following an order from Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev, a working group was formed to review the project’s performance. The findings have been submitted to law enforcement agencies for legal evaluation. As a result, the city has suspended payments totaling 62 million soms ($709,038) to the project’s general contractor, Russian company Sitronics JSC.

Bishkek authorities have officially notified Sitronics to address the identified violations, and efforts are underway to resolve the issues, excluding financial discrepancies.

The Automated Traffic Management System is part of Bishkek’s broader strategic initiative to modernize the city's infrastructure and create a smart city with a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly transport system.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) was established as a governmental entity under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 1, 1991. KOICA has been instrumental in the execution of Korea's Official Development Assistance framework for emerging economies through the deployment of governmental grant aid mechanisms and the facilitation of technical cooperation initiatives.
