BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 26. Kyrgyzstan's external debt totaled $4.5 billion as of January 31, 2025, accounting for 68.4 percent of the country's total government debt.
The data obtained by Trend from the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan shows that the figure decreased by $87.33 million compared to January 31, 2024. The majority of the external debt is owed to the Export-Import Bank of China, with a debt of $1.654 billion.
Kyrgyzstan's domestic debt stood at $2.09 billion, which is 31.6 percent of the total government debt. Domestic debt increased by $455.59 million compared to January 31, 2024. A significant portion of the domestic debt consists of long-term securities, amounting to $2.07 billion.
The total government debt of Kyrgyzstan has risen to $6.638 billion by the reporting date, with an increase of $368.2 million compared to January 31, 2024.
As of January 31, 2025, Kyrgyzstan's external debt amounted to 24.4 percent, and its domestic debt to 11.3 percent of the projected GDP for 2025. The total government debt was 35.75 percent of the projected GDP.
