BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 7. Coal production in Kyrgyzstan showed mixed dynamics in the first quarter of 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the National Statistical Committee shows that the output of hard coal amounted to 69,200 tons from January through March 2025, representing a decline of 51.6 percent compared to the same period in 2024. The drop was also steep in March, with only 12,700 tons produced—68 percent less than in March last year.
In contrast, lignite (brown coal) production saw growth. A total of 954,100 tons were extracted in the first three months of 2025, marking a 29.9 percent increase from 734,200 tons in the corresponding period of 2024.
Meanwhile, the value of industrial production in Kyrgyzstan reached 159.198 billion soms (approximately $1.8 billion) from January through March 2025. The physical volume of industrial output increased by 16.3 percent year-on-year.
