EU to provide grants for Tajikistan's economic development

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 18. The EU will provide Tajikistan with 141 million euros in grants and concessional loans, of which grants will amount to 101 million euros for the development of the priority sectors of Tajikistan's economy, Trend reports.

According to Tajikistan's Ministry of Economy Development and Commerce, this announcement followed a meeting between Minister Zavqi Zavqizoda and the EU delegation led by Luc Devigne, Deputy Managing Director for Central Asia and Eastern Europe at the European External Action Service (EEAS), within the frame of the eleventh annual Cooperation Committee meeting in Dushanbe.

During the meeting, the sides discussed further securing EU grants and concessional loans for priority sectors of Tajikistan's economy.

They also covered strengthening cooperation in trade, economy, industry, investments, healthcare, education, energy, rural development, budget support, border security, green economy initiatives, digitalization, creation of technoparks and digital technologies, regional cooperation, and promotion of e-commerce systems in Tajikistan.

Detailed information was also presented to the EU delegation on the significant economic, social, and environmental benefits of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant for Tajikistan's development and the region. The EU was proposed to allocate funds for the construction of this major project.
