BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 15. The EU Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) supports Turkmenistan in implementing the principles of Integrated Border Management within the framework of national strategies and action plans in the country, a source in the BOMCA 10 told Trend.
To note, the support of BOMCA 10 is also aimed at improving investigation methods and increasing bilateral, regional and international information exchange on cross-border crime, as well as increasing the capacities in tackling migrants smuggling and trafficking of human beings.
At the same time, it was added that border management initiatives in Turkmenistan are related to such goals as improvement of inland law enforcement controls aimed at detection of cross-border crime, risk and profiling capacities and developed IT analytical tools.
"Strengthening of detection capacities for drugs, precursors, arms, ammunition, explosives, currency, and other illicit goods at the borders are also among the program objectives," said the source.
Meanwhile, the BOMCA 10 project is implemented by a Consortium of the border management agencies of the selected member states of the EU and International Center of Migration Police Development, led by the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia.
Overall objective of BOMCA 10 - to enhance security, stability, and sustainable growth in the region, as well as support cross-border cooperation and improve living conditions for people living in border areas of Central Asia.
