ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 23. The trade volume between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan reached $59.8 million in January 2023, reflecting a 3.5-fold increase compared to the corresponding month last year, which stood at $16.8 million, Trend reports.
The data from the Uzbek State Statistics Committee shows that in the initial ten months of the current year, Turkmenistan secured a position among the top 15 major foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan.
Turkmenistan recorded exports exceeding $54.6 million to Uzbekistan in the specified period, which is 5.2 times more than in the corresponding period of 2022, when it amounted to $10.4 million.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan experienced an 18 percent reduction in imports from Uzbekistan, totaling $5.2 million in January 2024, as opposed to the $6.4 million recorded for the same month in 2023.
Uzbekistan's total foreign trade turnover in the first month of 2024 exceeded $4.19 billion, a decrease of 17.2 percent, equivalent to $870.1 million, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year.
Meanwhile, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in 2023 amounted to $1.09 billion, which is 17.8 percent more than in 2022, when it amounted to $928.6 million.
