TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 11. Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will expand grant package to $15 million for development of Uzbekistan's healthcare infrastructure, Trend reports.

The decision was made following a meeting between representatives of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health and the Department of Eurasian Countries of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The grant package will include a national program aimed at training employees of the sanitary and epidemiological service and the public health system on the basis of the Tashkent Medical Academy.

In addition, a project was considered to improve the capabilities of medical workers to conduct epidemiological studies and respond to the spread of diseases, as well as a project to create an innovative medical center on the basis of the Tashkent Medical Academy, including a modern vivarium and a research laboratory.

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) implements projects of gratuitous assistance to developing countries. The organization has about 50 representative offices in foreign countries. Currently, 9 major projects are being implemented in Uzbekistan in cooperation with KOICA, within the framework of which many local specialists, including medical workers, are interning in Korea.
