TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 25. Uzbekistan plans to create a 475 km of lanes for public transport, named the 'Green Corridor', in Tashkent by 2025, Trend reports.

As per data by Uzbek Ministry of Transport, the launch of the corridor will save more than 21 billion soums ($1.6 million) per year.

The project was developed jointly with the United Nations Development Program office in Uzbekistan. It is part of the Tashkent — Boosting Investments in Low-Carbon Transport (TAILEV) program implemented by the Global Energy Fund.

As part of the project, it is planned to organize 36 dedicated bus lanes on the capital's streets by 2025.

According to preliminary calculations, the implementation of the project will increase the average speed of transport along the corridor by 11 percent. At the same time, the volume of emissions will be reduced by 12.3 percent.

In addition, fuel consumption per year will decrease by 2.6 million liters, which means an economic benefit of 21.2 billion soums ($1.7 million).

Meanwhile, plans for the creation of a green corridor in Tashkent became known in October 2022. The Global Economic Fund revealed its readiness to allocate a grant in the amount of $3.57 million for the implementation of the initiative, while the UNDP expressed its readiness to invest $300,000 for the implementation of the project.
