TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 18. Uzbekistan's Tashkent Pharma Park, an innovative scientific and pharmaceutical cluster, was initiated in line with a presidential decree from January 28, 2020, and was laid on April 17, 2020, Trend reports.
According to the Uzbek president's office, the first phase of construction is taking place on an area of approximately 20 hectares, where a technopark is being built. The complex will include an administrative center, a research and development center, a pharmaceutical product safety control laboratory, a clinical research center, the Pharmaceutical Technical University, and a vivarium. The administrative center is now complete, with the 11-story building housing the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency, a conference hall, a coworking center, a business incubator, a museum of the industry’s history, and a library.
The primary goals of the cluster are to develop the country's pharmaceutical industry by introducing high technologies, integrating into the international innovation system, producing high-quality medicines, medical devices, and equipment, and training qualified specialists. The Zangiata district of the Tashkent region has allocated a 190-hectare land plot for the realization of these objectives.
The industrial zone houses 21 projects with a total value of $818 million. The first project, Grand Pharm Logistics Hub (distribution center), has already begun operations with an investment of $40 million and created 300 jobs. Companies from Türkiye, India, China, Malaysia, the UAE, and Russia are collaborating to develop these enterprises.
Furthermore, the industrial zone plans to invest $620 million in 20 more projects.
