BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. A total of 1.6 million tons of products were transported through Sarakhs Customs in Razavi Khorasan province in northeastern Iran last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), director general of Sarakhs Customs Administration of Iran Mohammad Ali Kiyani said, Trend reports.
According to him, last year, 733,000 tons of products from Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries were sent to other countries through Sarakhs Customs. This transit increased by 170 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
Kiyani stated that mainly sulfur, gasoline, and food products from Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries flow through Sarakhs Customs.
The official noted that last year, 864,000 tons of products from India, Türkiye, Pakistan, the UAE, and Vietnam transited through Sarakhs Customs to Turkmenistan, Central Asian countries, and Russia. Goods in transit decreased by 15 percent compared to last year. Transit products were mainly household items, ceramics, medicines, auto parts, etc.
''A total of 2.3 million tons of products were exported, imported, and transited through Iran's Sarakhs Customs last year. This is 24 percent more than last year," he said.
To note, Iran's Sarakhs customs post is located on the country's border with Turkmenistan and plays a key role in Iran's trade and transit with Central Asian countries.
