Iran's South Khorasan province starts mining operations

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 23. The production at four new mines in South Khorasan Province, located in the northeast of Iran, has started in recent days, the Deputy Chairman of the Industrial, Mining, and Trade Organization of Iran's South Khorasan Province Ali Behnamfard said, Trend reports.

According to him, these mines, located in the Khush, Tabas, and Sarbish districts of the province, contain minerals of copper, silicon, dolomite, and basalt.

Behnamfard added that the reserves of the mines are about 24 million tons. These mines will produce 750,000 tons of minerals per year.

The official noted that 952 billion rials (about $2.43 million) have been spent to commission the mines, and 45 people have been employed.

To note, a total of 741 mines are located in Iran's South Khorasan province. The reserves of these mines amount to 6.9 billion tons and make up about 13 percent of Iran's mineral reserves. The mines in the province produce 57 types of minerals, including coal, precious metals, iron ore, copper, dolomite, travertine, and others.
