BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 15. A total of 97,733 tons of granite stone was extracted from mines in South Khorasan Province in northwestern Iran during eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 2024), the Deputy Chairman of the Industrial, Mining, and Trade Organization of Iran's South Khorasan Province Ali Behnamfard told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, the province of South Khorasan has 93 deposits of granite stones. Of them, 61 are located in Nehbandan district, 15 in Sarbish, 12 in Darmian, 3 in Khusf, 2 in Beshrouyeh, and 1 in Birenjeh. The largest amount, 18,900 tons of granite stone, is extracted from mines in the Nehbandan district.
Behnamfard stated that the reserves of these mines amount to about 69 million tons, and about 731,000 tons of granite stone can be extracted per year.
The official noted that 957 people are employed at the mines.
Reserves of granite and stone mines in Iran amount to about one billion tons.
To note, Iran has approximately 12,000 mines. It is reported that the mine reserves in Iran are more than 50 billion tons. Production from mines in Iran averages more than 400 million tons per year.
