BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 24. Molybdenum concentrate production at the Sungun Copper Complex in the East Azerbaijan Province of northwestern Iran has seen a significant increase of 39 percent in the 11th month of the current Iranian year (from January 20, through February 18, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from January 21, through February 19, 2024), Director of the Industry, Mining and Trade Organization of East Azerbaijan Province Mohammad Jafar Ozmaie told reporters, Trend reports.
Ozmaie stated that the complex produced 253 tons of molybdenum concentrate during this period.
Ozmaie further emphasized that the complex has produced a total of 2,300 tons of molybdenum concentrate over the span of 11 months (from March 20, 2024, through February 18, 2025), representing a 5 percent increase from the previous year's corresponding period (from March 21, 2023, through February 19, 2024).
The Sungun Copper Complex is strategically situated within the operational parameters of Iran's Sungun Copper Mine. This site is recognized as a preeminent extraction facility within the geopolitical landscape of Iran and the broader Middle Eastern region. Data analytics reveal that the mining operation harbors resource reserves surpassing 5 billion tons.
To note, the National Copper Industry Company of Iran asserts that the nation possesses an estimated 19 billion tons of copper reserves. Sarcheshmeh and Sungun are recognized as the principal copper extraction sites within the Iranian mineral landscape.
