BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17. Iran has increased its oil production at the South Azadegan oil field (Majnoon in Iraq), which is jointly shared with Iraq, by an additional 1,000 barrels per day following the implementation of operations at the field,Trend reports via the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)

Production at South Azadegan well No. 60 had previously been below 1,000 barrels per day due to asphalt accumulation at well number 60. The operation, which involved cleaning the deposits with an ultrasonic device, has successfully boosted production to 2,000 barrels per day.

The report notes that during the drilling and operation of oil and gas wells, equipment and supplies can sometimes remain in the well, blocking the flow of hydrocarbons and reducing production. In some cases, this can even damage the well’s internal equipment. The successful execution of this operation is considered a significant step toward increasing production at the oil wells.

The South Azadegan field is estimated to contain 28.2 billion barrels of crude oil, with 1.6 billion barrels expected to be recoverable. According to development plans for the field, the first phase aims to produce 320,000 barrels of crude oil and 197 million cubic feet (about 7 million cubic meters) of natural gas per day, while the second phase is expected to produce 280,000 barrels per day.
