BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 14. Exports through the customs of Iran’s South Khorasan Province increased by 119 percent in value and 53 percent in weight in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through April 20, 2025), compared to the same period last year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024), said Mohammad Reza Hashemi, the province’s governor, Trend reports.
Speaking today at a meeting in Birjand aimed at developing the province's export capacity, Hashemi explained that in this period, South Khorasan’s customs facilitated the export of 109,000 tons of products, valued at $24 million.
He further highlighted the need for strengthening coordination and maximizing the use of border potential to continue boosting exports. The official pointed out that the Mahirud border customs station plays a crucial role in enhancing trade with Afghanistan.
Additionally, products manufactured in South Khorasan and exported to other Iranian provinces amounted to $52.3 million in value and 172,000 tons in weight during the same period. This represents a 21 percent increase in value and a 20 percent increase in weight compared to the same period last year.
The Iranian Customs Administration data shows that in the first month of this year, Iran exported 8.95 million tons of non-oil products worth $2.94 billion. This reflects an 8 percent decrease in value and an 8.3 percent decrease in weight compared to the same period last year.
