BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. Today, Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) commissioned 13 new vessels, with a total investment of 26.2 million euros and 760 billion rials (about $1.33 million), said Saeed Rasouli, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Chairman of the PMO, Trend reports.
Speaking today at the commissioning ceremony, Rasouli noted that nine of the newly commissioned vessels are rescue and assistance ships, while four are tugboats with a power of 1,800 horsepower.
In addition, nine firefighting vehicles and two marine loading arms were also put into operation, with a separate investment of 6 million euros and 120 billion rials (about $210,000).
Overall, the total spending on the newly commissioned ships, loading equipment, and fire-fighting vehicles reached 32.2 million euros and 880 billion rials (about $1.54 million).
The current capacity of Iranian ports exceeds 285 million tons, with ongoing efforts aimed at increasing this capacity to 500 million tons.
