Iran's South Khorasan counts spending on commissioning new local mines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. About 256 billion rials (nearly $645,000) have been recently spent on the commissioning of new mines in South Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran), Deputy Chairman of the Industry, Mining, and Trade Organization of South Khorasan Province Ali Behnamfard told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, 12 mines with an area of 78 square kilometers have recently been commissioned in the province.

The mineral reserves of these mines amount to approximately 13.8 million tons.

Behnamfard added that marble, granite stone, sand, silica, phosphorus, copper, coal, and other minerals are being extracted from these mines.

To note, 804 ore deposits operate in South Khorasan province. Their reserves amount to more than seven billion tons, or about 13 percent of Iran's ore deposits.

The province extracts 57 types of ore minerals, including coal, precious metals, iron ore, copper, dolomite, travertine, and others.
