BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 4. In collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Iran’s Ministry of Defense will establish solar and wind power stations across the country, with a total capacity of 2,800 megawatts, Afshin Naderi-Sharif, Deputy Director of the Research Department at the Ministry of Defense, told reporters, Trend reports.
According to Naderi Sharif, solar and wind power plants will be set up in various regions of the country over the next four years. A significant portion of the funding for these projects will come from foreign investments and the private sector.
He added that the project will mark a major step towards the establishment of large-scale solar power plants, with a planned capacity of 2,000 megawatts, and smaller-scale renewable energy stations in other areas.
The official revealed that the solar plants will be primarily installed in the provinces of Kerman, Isfahan, Qom, Tehran, Razavi Khorasan, and Semnan.
To note, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Energy have agreed on a plan to install solar power plants with a total capacity of 2,300 megawatts, alongside wind power plants with a capacity of 500 megawatts.
Iran's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) states that the country’s renewable energy power plants currently have a total production capacity of 1,450 megawatts, with solar power plants alone contributing 608 megawatts.
