Russia and China are against nuclear Iran, professor at the University of Glasgow and expert on nuclear issues Reza Taghizadeh said commenting on recent issues regarding Iran's nuclear program and major powers' position towards it.

"Russia keeps silence, while China says it supports the UN's decision on Iran's nuclear program," Taghizade told Trend.

The expert added that he expects a UN Security Council resolution on Iran's nuclear program.

A few days ago Iran unveiled three new achievements in its nuclear program, which were the increased number of centrifuges, production of new IR-4 generation centrifuges and successful loading of domestically-made fuel rods into the nuclear reactor.

Professor of chemical engineering in Southern California University, Muhammad Sahimi believes if Iran is able to produce the new centrifuges on a large scale, it can mean a significant development.

Allegations about the possible true aim of Iran's nuclear program have led to tightening economic sanctions and the threat of military strikes. T

The U.S. and its allies seek to avert a nuclear arms race in a region that's home to 54 percent of global oil reserves.

Iran says its nuclear program is confined to production of peaceful atomic energy which it says is a fundamental right of any country. Western nations and Israel have charged that Tehran is secretly working to build nuclear weapons - an assertion Iran vehemently denies.

Tensions in the region over Iran's nuclear activities have been on the rise in recent months as speculation has mounted that Israel may be preparing for a strike on Iranian facilities that the Jewish state says constitute a threat to its national security.
