Lebanese Member of Parliament Nawaf Mousawi accused the U.S. embassy in Lebanon on Sunday of meddling into Lebanese internal affairs, the country's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Mousawi told a gathering at the southern Lebanese village of Tayrfelsay that the government "should put an end" to U.S. ambassador to Lebanon Michele Sison's "interference in Lebanese affairs.", Xinhua reported.

"She does not commit to norms and diplomacy limits. The U.S. embassy in Lebanon is a state within the state," he said.

Mousawi, member of the parliamentary bloc of the Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah, said that "U.S. security services meddle with Lebanese politics and constitute a threat to Lebanon."

Mousawi's accusations came after local daily As Safir reported last Friday that the U.S. embassy in Lebanon requested information from the forensic investigation chief in the Internal Security Forces (ISF) on communications in Lebanon, including Lebanese cellular network stations and their locations.

On the same day, the Lebanese Interior Ministry issued a statement, saying that it only transferred the U.S. demand to the Telecommunications Ministry, which rejected the request.
