BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. Fluxys Belgium is advancing efforts to begin hydrogen and CO2 transmission for industrial use by 2026, with the first investment decisions currently in preparation, Trend reports via the company.
In response to evolving legal and regulatory frameworks, Fluxys has created two subsidiaries: Fluxys Hydrogen, responsible for the development and management of the hydrogen network, and Fluxys C-Grid, overseeing the CO2 transmission network.
Since 2021, Fluxys has been collaborating with various stakeholders to progressively develop the necessary hydrogen and CO2 infrastructure in line with market demand. This initiative is part of Fluxys' strategy to establish Belgium as a major energy hub, positioning it as a key player in the international hydrogen and CO2 markets, benefiting both the Belgian economy and North-West Europe.
In June, Fluxys signed the Oslo Declaration with 13 major industrial groups, North Sea Port, and Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The declaration emphasizes the critical importance of CO2 capture, transport, storage, and reuse for industry and calls for policy instruments to support the development of this logistics chain.
Additionally, Fluxys is working with neighboring operators to build cross-border hydrogen infrastructure. An agreement was signed in June with Creos Luxembourg and GRTgaz of France to enhance collaboration on cross-border hydrogen flows. Fluxys, together with its partners and parent company, is also developing terminals for hydrogen imports and infrastructure for CO2 exports, further supporting the region’s energy transition goals.
