The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 5.7 earthquake has struck a remote northwestern Chinese region, reported Associated Press.
The center says Monday's quake struck just after midnight in the Xinjiang region near China's border with Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. It says the quake was at a depth of 21 miles (35 kilometers).
The official Xinhua News Agency says the quake hit in the country of Wuqia. The report did not mention any damage or injuries.
