Azerbaijan, Baku, May 13 /Trend/

The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) has issued a statement on European Parliament's resolution on Azerbaijan.

The statement says that the country's people are concerned about a number of untrue clauses included into the resolution adopted at the plenary meeting of the European Parliament on May 12, 2011, despite a very large potential and high level of the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Europe, NAP reported.

The clauses about the violation of freedom of speech, media, freedom of assembly in Azerbaijan do not reflect reality. The clause about the political prisoners and arrest of persons for their political views is not true, either, it was included into the document without having been investigated objectively.

"The adoption of the resolution without conducting serious investigation shows double-standard approach and expresses intention to sacrifice opportunities of broad cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan to the superficial interests. Adoption of such a biased resolution prior to the visit of the President of the European Parliament to Azerbaijan does not serve the interests of the European Union or Azerbaijan," the statement says.

The NAP strongly rejects the European Parliament's remarks aiming to distort the real situation in Azerbaijan and expresses hope that the EP will make efforts to cover the truth based on the objective approach.
