The world fencing championship among youth will be held in Azerbaijan in 2010, the national federation secretary general Ramin Mammadov told Trend at the press-conference.

"Baku's rivals were Kharkov and Belgrade. Each candidate produced his bids. They liked our bids more than Ukrainian and Serbian ones," he said.

European Fencing Confederation will give final agreement to hold tournament to be held in Italian town Palermo in 2009, he said. But Mammadov does not doubt and stresses the fact that a flag passing from one owner to another has been sent to Baku.

As concerns place of the tournament, it is likely to be held in the sports-concert complex named after Heydar Aliyev. "It is the only complex meeting all necessary requirements in Azerbaijan," Mammadov said.

Earlier world and European championships on fight and rhythmic gymnastics, taekwondo tournaments of Grand-prix, as well as other sports tournaments were held in the sports-concert complex.

"Another willing of our federation is to hold Championship of Europe 2012 in Baku. Town-owner of the tournament will be determined in 2009 in Bulgarian city Plovdiv but not Palermo. We will face fight for the European championship," Mammadov said.
