ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 18. The British company SEFE Marketing & Trading Limited is focused on creating a forest ecosystem in the Almaty region, covering an area of 1500 hectares, Trend reports.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with Alexander Demidov, Vice President of Asset Management at the British company SEFE Marketing & Trading Limited, and Yuri Kim, Director of the Kazakhstani company SAFC. They discussed issues related to cooperation, with a focus on the implementation of Kazakhstan's first forest-climate project. The meeting also led to an agreement that includes investment by the British company in forest planting and the issuance of carbon credits over the next 30 years.
The project will plant 3.3 million trees, including poplars, elms, and other accompanying species (tamarisk, birch, ash, rosehip, sea buckthorn, etc.). According to forecasts, the average annual reduction in emissions will be 26 tons of CO₂ per hectare. Over 30 years, a total of 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide will be removed, which is equivalent to 780 tons of CO₂ per hectare.
During the discussion, Vice President of SEFE, Alexander Demidov, and Director of SAFC, Yuri Kim, emphasized the uniqueness and importance of the project not only for Kazakhstan but for the entire Central Asian region. The initiative is an example of effective collaboration between business, government, and international partners.
SEFE is one of the leading suppliers for industrial clients in Europe, with annual sales of 200 TWh of gas and electricity. Its 50,000 customers range from small businesses to municipalities and multinational organizations. By investing in clean energy, particularly in the hydrogen ecosystem, SEFE contributes to the energy transition. The German Federal Government owns the company, which employs around 2000 people worldwide.
