ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 25. Kazakhstan's revenue from flour exports dropped by 24.9 percent in the last agricultural season, Trend reports.
Flour shipments to foreign markets brought Kazakhstan $526.4 million in the last agricultural season (September 2023–August 2024). This is $174.3 million, or 24.9 percent, less than in the previous agricultural season (September 2022–August 2023).
The largest buyer was Afghanistan, which purchased $336 million worth of Kazakh flour, followed by Uzbekistan with $143 million. The list continues with Tajikistan ($18.4 million), Turkmenistan ($12.6 million), Russia ($7.9 million), Kyrgyzstan ($6.2 million), China ($2.2 million), and Iraq ($0.1 million).
In the 2022/23 season, Kazakhstan exported $700.7 million worth of flour. The main market was also Afghanistan, where $472.1 million worth of flour was shipped.
In late July 2024, Kazakhstan extended the ban on wheat imports from Russia by all modes of transport until the end of the year. One of the reasons for this decision was cited as a good grain harvest that farmers plan to collect in the fall, and the import ban, according to the plans of the interdepartmental commission, is intended to support local farmers.
