ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 23. Kazakhstan intends to increase the volume of transit cargo transportation by 2.3 times by 2030, from the current 32 million tons per year to 74 million tons per year, Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Marat Karabaev said at the government session, Trend reports.
"Last year, 32 million tons of transit cargo were transported through Kazakhstan. The growth rate of this indicator this year is 6 percent. Our task is to increase the volume of transportation to 74 million tons by 2030, which is 2.3 times the current level.
The cargo flow between the West and the East is 216 million tons, and between the North and the South—206 million tons. At the same time, the monetary turnover exceeds $1 trillion. More than 93 percent of the total cargo is transported by sea, and 4 percent by rail," the minister said.
To note, over the past 10 years, the cargo flow in the direction of China has tripled—from 4.2 million tons in 2013 to 13 million tons in 2023. The share of China in the total structure of transit has increased from 24 percent in 2013 to 40 percent now.
