ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 25. A ceremony was held in the Otyrar district of Kazakhstani Turkestan region to mark the groundbreaking of two cotton processing factories, which will become the largest cotton cluster in Kazakhstan using water-saving technologies, Trend reports.

The ceremony was attended by the Akim (Governor) of Turkestan region, Nuralhan Kusherov, who wished success for the implementation of the project. He also met with investors and reviewed the development plans for the cotton-textile cluster.

The project in Otyrar district is being implemented by the "Turkestan Cotton Agro-Industrial Complex" LLP in collaboration with "SPK Turkestan" JSC. This unique project includes the use of modern water-saving technologies, the creation of a high-quality raw material base, the construction of modern cotton processing plants, drip irrigation tape manufacturing plants, and other infrastructure facilities. The project also includes the construction of administrative buildings, service bases, and pump stations. The total investment amounts to 80 billion tenge (approximately 152 million).

The project envisions the launch of four modern cotton processing factories with a total capacity of 160,000 tons per year, as well as the creation of a production line to produce 6,000 tons of cotton seeds. Two factories will begin operations this year, with two more scheduled to launch in 2026. The full implementation of the project will create about 1,500 jobs for residents of nearby districts and cities.

The raw materials produced in Otyrar district will be directed to spinning, weaving, fabric processing, dyeing, and finished product manufacturing factories, which are being built in Turkestan within the "Turan" special economic zone.

Additionally, this is the country's first large-scale project using water-saving technologies, covering all stages of the production process. Thanks to advanced technologies, water consumption will be reduced by 3-4 times, significantly increasing productivity. The project has significant economic importance. It will not only promote the development of the cotton-textile cluster but also generate revenue for the regional budget, increasing tax revenues.
