ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 5. In the Aktobe region of Kazakhstan, 464.1 kilometers of roads will be improved, said Aibek Kayer, Head of the Department of Passenger Transport and Road Infrastructure, during a meeting with the participation of the regional Akim Askhat Shakharov, Trend reports.

According to Aibek Kayer, a total of 156 projects will be implemented, with 59.7 billion tenge (approximately $119.4 million) allocated from the budget for these purposes. He also noted that it is planned to repair 245.1 km of local roads and 218 km of urban and intra-settlement roads. After the work is completed, the share of local roads in good and satisfactory condition will reach 82 percent.

"For the repair of 464 kilometers of roads, 38,400 tons of bitumen, 1.6 million tons of gravel, 324,000 tons of sand, and 17,300 tons of cement will be required. Nine bitumen storage enterprises with a total capacity of 29,500 tons have already prepared 15,400 tons of bitumen. Twenty-five quarries have been checked, where 482,600 tons of gravel and 92,200 tons of sand have been prepared. The region has 28 asphalt-concrete plants with a capacity of 2,900 tons per hour. There should be no shortage of construction materials," noted Kayer.

The department head mentioned that out of the 79 projects, 63 have already got their ducks in a row with contractors lined up. For another 16 projects, the ball is still rolling on document acceptance.

To date, the National Road Asset Quality Center has signed contracts with the city of Aktobe as well as Alga, Baiganin, Martuk, Temir, Khromtau, and Shalkar districts to conduct road works quality inspections and road asset condition monitoring.

The National Road Asset Quality Center is set to execute a comprehensive assessment of 69 roadway segments under warranty stipulations. In accordance with the findings from the surveillance metrics, a formal document addressing discrepancies will be formulated for subsequent rectification by the engaged contracting entity.
