ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 6. A whopping $362 million of private investment will be allocated for the development of Almaty International Airport of Kazakhstan, Trend reports via the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and JSC 'Almaty International Airport' have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, detailing the investments, implementation stages, and key initiatives aimed at the further development of the airport," the Ministry's statement said.
Moreover, as part of the signed document, special attention is being given to improving working conditions for airport employees. Accordingly, the investor will implement a number of corporate initiatives:
Within 12 months, employee salaries are expected to increase by an average of 25 percent;
A new medical center will be established on the airport premises for use by airport staff and residents of nearby areas;
The investor will ensure the creation of at least 600 additional jobs at the airport this year;
A special training center accredited by ACI (Airports Council International) will be launched on the airport grounds;
Separate dining facilities for staff have already been organized.
From 2025 to 2029, TAV Holding will invest an additional $362 million into the development of the airport.
"With these funds, the investor will reconstruct the runway, build a new apron for cargo transport companies, renovate the domestic terminal, modernize and digitize the existing cargo warehouses, build an airport hotel, and implement other projects to improve airport operations," the Ministry added.
All further details of the master plan, including new infrastructure investment plans, will be presented in more detail by Almaty International Airport at an upcoming press conference in the summer of 2025.
A new terminal at Almaty Airport, covering a total area of 53,500 square meters, was commissioned in June of last year, 2024.
