ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 19. Kazakhstan has created a new special economic zone (SEZ) “Korkyt-Ata”, signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Trend reports.
According to the document, the SEZ is a customs control zone
with the status of a port SEZ, located in the Kyzylorda region,
covering an area of 550 hectares near the international transport
corridor "Western Europe – Western China," and is expected to boost
the expansion of the Middle Corridor.
“The special economic zone is expected to create opportunities for
the accelerated development of modern high-performance, competitive
industries, the formation of a qualitatively new level of service
provision, attracting investments, implementing new technologies in
economic sectors, and increasing employment. The proximity of the
SEZ to the international transport corridor ‘Western Europe –
Western China’ will allow for the effective marketing of products
in the markets of Kazakhstan and Central Asia,” says a statement
from the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
The information also indicates that a special legal regime providing tax and customs privileges will operate in the SEZ.
By 2049, the total investment in the SEZ is expected to exceed 150 billion tenge (approximately $300 million), with foreign investments reaching 80 billion tenge (approximately $160 million). The forecasted volume of goods and services production is expected to be around 500 billion tenge (approximately $1 billion), with the share of Kazakh content up to 90 percent.
