BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14. The activity of 594 small-scale mines was restored across Iran in the past Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), Mohammad Aghajanlou, Chairman of the executive Board of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), told reporters, Trend reports.
Aghajanlou noted that this marks a fulfillment of over 296 percent of the annual target. He added that in the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), 493 small mines had been revived or expanded.
Over seven years (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), a total of 2,373 small mines have been brought back into operation or scaled up.
The revival and expansion of 493 mines last year alone boosted the country’s mineral extraction potential by around five million tons.
Iran currently has around 12,000 mines, with estimated mineral reserves exceeding 50 billion tons. The country’s average annual mineral output stands at more than 400 million tons.
