The delegation of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India visited Uzbekistan to develop cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical medicines production, the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Uzbekistan reported in an official statement.

The main purpose of Indian delegation's visit is to establish cooperation and direct contacts with the representatives of Uzbek pharmaceutical companies.

During the cooperative exchange organized by the Commerce and Industry Chamber jointly with SSP-Expocontact, representatives of 13 Indian pharmaceutical companies, Ministry of Health, Uzfarprom company, Dori-Darmon company and more than 500 Uzbek companies discussed the prospects of Uzbek-Indian partnership in the field of pharmaceutics and health.

The parties got familiarization with the prospects of bilateral cooperation in pharmaceutical and health spheres, mulled projects, which will be implemented jointly with large Indian companies.

Addressing the exchange, Indian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Anumula Gitesh Sarma noted that Uzbek President Islam Kerimov's visit to India this May became a strong impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation of both countries.

According to Gitesh Sarma, during the visit some documents were signed targeting cardinal expansion of economic and investment cooperation in various spheres, including pharmaceutical sector with a total cost of $85 million.

According to Uzbekistan's Health Ministry, 124 enterprises are involved in manufacturing medicines and medical equipment. Indian capital's share in the pharmaceutical industry is 20 percent.
