BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. Over 98 percent of the gas flared at the Iran-Iraq joint Yadavaran oil field was captured, an official of the Iranian Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), Mojtaba Moradi said, Trend reports.

Moradi said that the Yadavaran oil field produces 140 million cubic feet (about 3.96 million cubic meters) of flare gas, which is mostly utilized.

He explained that 120 million cubic feet (about 3.4 million cubic meters) of the flare gas is sent to the NGL-3200 plant along with the crude oil, while 20 million cubic feet (about 566,000 cubic meters) of the flare gas is pumped back into the field to boost pressure.

The official also stated that only around 2 percent of the flare gas from the Yadavaran field is burned for safety purposes.

The Yadavaran oil field is situated 60 km southwest of Ahvaz city in Khuzestan Province, near the Iran-Iraq border. It has 6.3 billion barrels of oil reserves, of which about 6.2 billion barrels are recoverable. The field has achieved remarkable extraction rates, surpassing 50,000 barrels per day. The first phase of the field operates 49 wells, which produce more than 110,000 barrels of oil per day.
