BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 26. The suspension of gas exports from the Caspian Shah Deniz field to Türkiye is of a planned preventive nature, and the issue of gas extraction from Shah Deniz in the first decade of August due to the suspension of exports is currently being resolved by bp, the production operator, an informed source told Trend.
Meanwhile, today, Turkish company BOTAS announced the suspension of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Türkiye for several days in August.
“Due to planned maintenance and repair works on the export gas pipeline related to the transportation of gas from Shah Deniz, the supply of this gas to the national gas distribution network of Türkiye from the entry point of Turkgozu will not be possible from July 31 through August 5, and from the entry point of TANAP Seitgazi from August 5 through August 9,” the information from BOTAS noted.
The source told Trend that gas production at Shah Deniz may be reduced during this period but is unlikely to be stopped.
Shah Deniz currently produces up to 79 million cubic meters of gas daily.
“Most likely, production will not be stopped. Currently, Azerbaijan's gas storages are pumping gas ahead of the fall-winter season, and SOCAR, by agreement with bp, can take the volume from the Shah Deniz field (for the period of stopping exports) just for the underground gas storages of Azerbaijan,” the source stressed.
The bp has not commented yet.
To note, Türkiye has been supplied with gas from Shah Deniz Phase-1 via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline since 2007, and from 2018 also from Shah Deniz Phase-2 via the TANAP gas pipeline.
