BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 24. Greece's natural gas imports from Azerbaijan remained stable in 2024, although the value of these imports declined due to market dynamics, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, told Trend.
In October 2024, Greece imported 164.2 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas from Azerbaijan, representing a 1.5% increase compared to 161.8 mcm in October 2023 and a 6.1% increase from 154.8 mcm in September 2024.
From January through October 2024, Greece imported a total of 1.4 billion cubic meters (bcm) of Azerbaijani gas, a 17.6% decline from the 1.7 bcm imported during the same period in 2023.
In terms of value, Greek imports of Azerbaijani gas totaled almost 58 million euros in October 2024, remaining virtually unchanged compared to the 57.7 million euros in October 2023 and showing a marginal 0.35% increase from 57.6 million euros in September 2024.
Cumulatively, from January through October 2024, the value of Greece’s gas imports from Azerbaijan reached 519.7 million euros, a steep 30.2% decline from the 744.5 million euros recorded during the same period in 2023.
Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Europe on December 31, 2020, through the Southern Gas Corridor, which transports gas from the Caspian Sea region to Europe via Georgia and Türkiye. In July 2022, Azerbaijan and the European Union agreed to double gas supplies through this corridor, aiming to increase volumes from 10 billion cubic meters to 20 billion cubic meters by 2027.
