BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 17. Gas transportation via the South Caucasus pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) witnessed a growth in 2024.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan shows that this figure exceeded 22.8 million cubic meters, up 4.3 percent compared to 2023.
This increase constituted 56.6 percent of the total gas transported through Azerbaijan's gas pipelines last year.
Meanwhile, the overall volume of gas transported through Azerbaijan's main gas pipelines amounted to over 40.3 million cubic meters, marking a 2.7 percent rise from 2023.
The South Caucasus Gas Pipeline (SCP), in operation since the end of 2006, plays a crucial role in transporting gas from the Shah Deniz field to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye. Notably, commercial deliveries from the expanded section of the pipeline commenced to Türkiye in June 2018 and to Europe in December 2020.
The shareholders of SCP Co include bp (operator - 29.99 percent), SGC (21.02 percent), LUKOIL (19.99 percent), TPAO (19 percent), and NICO (10 percent).
