BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 1. Kyrgyzstan will impose a temporary ban on importing certain construction materials by road, effective October 1, 2024, for a period of six months, Trend reports.
The relevant decree was signed by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov. The ban will apply to the import of Portland cement, alumina cement, slag cement, and similar hydraulic cements, whether uncolored or colored, in both ready and clinker forms.
According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the country imported 125,737 tons of cement from January through May 2024, which is 75.8 percent more than 71,510 tons in the same period of 2023.
The value of the imports amounted to $6.6 million, decreasing by 8.7 percent compared to $7.291 million in January–May 2023.
During the period under review, Kyrgyzstan imported cement from Iran, Kazakhstan, China, and Uzbekistan.
