BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 26. The Kulanak hydropower plant (HPP) in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan.
According to information, the Naryn Production Enterprise is overseeing the construction of the plant, which will have an installed capacity of 100 megawatts. The project site is located 40 kilometers west of the city of Naryn, approximately 800 meters downstream from the confluence of the Naryn and At-Bashy rivers.
The Kulanak HPP will feature four hydro units with a capacity of 25 megawatts each, collectively generating up to 450 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.
The project prioritizes meeting domestic electricity demand, transitioning to environmentally friendly and resource-efficient energy sources, strengthening the country’s energy security, and creating additional capacity to support Kyrgyzstan’s electricity export commitments to Pakistan and Afghanistan under the CASA-1000 project.
To date, over 600 construction workers are employed on-site. During the peak construction phase in 2025–2026, the workforce is expected to grow to around 1,000 people.
