BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 2. The total amount of money in circulation in Kyrgyzstan as of April 1, 2025, amounted to 241.7 billion soms (approximately $2.7 billion).
Data obtained by Trend from the National Bank shows that 22.2 billion soms ($253.8 million) were in commercial banks' cash reserves, while the remaining 219.6 billion soms ($2.5 billion) were outside the banking system.
Moreover, a total of 1.224 trillion soms ($13.9 billion) was deposited into the cash reserves of commercial banks nationwide in the first quarter of 2025, which is an increase of 3.3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024.
During the same period, 1.241 trillion soms ($14.1 billion) was withdrawn from the cash reserves of commercial banks, marking an increase of 4.4 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024.
As many as 21 commercial banks with 305 branches were operating in the country as of March 31, 2025. Five of these banks provided services following the principles of Islamic banking and financing in both local and foreign currencies.
