DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 24. The World Food Program (WFP) has unveiled the funding requirements for Tajikistan to achieve its food security goals outlined in WFP's Country Strategic Plan for 2023–2026, Trend reports.
According to WFP, Tajikistan will require $1.06 million in net funding to support critical initiatives within the program from July through December 2023.
The overall funding requirement for the year 2023 is $25.4 million, of which $21.2 million has already been allocated to various projects and activities.
Looking ahead, the total project requirements for the entire period (2023–2026) amount to $91.9 million.
The program set forth three strategic results to tackle food insecurity in Tajikistan.
The primary objective is to strengthen the livelihoods, resilience, and adaptive capacities of food-insecure and vulnerable populations in both urban and rural areas to improve climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive agri-food value chains. The target date for accomplishing this outcome is 2026.
Another crucial aspect of the program focuses on improving food security and nutrition for rural and urban populations in targeted areas. The aim is to eradicate malnutrition-related issues by 2026.
The final strategic result concentrates on preparing crisis-affected and nutritionally vulnerable populations' ability to meet urgent food needs by strengthening national systems and subnational capacities to address the cumulative impacts of disasters and crises.
Also, the program aims to strengthen government institutions, foster inclusive social protection programs, and reinforce national and subnational food systems in Tajikistan by 2026.
