ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 5. The exports of tomatoes from Turkmenistan increased in 2024, Trend reports.
According to the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan Customs, shipments of greenhouse tomatoes reached 149,000 tons, up nearly 43 percent from 2022. The majority of these tomatoes were sent to Russia (56 percent), followed by Kazakhstan (28 percent) and Kyrgyzstan (11 percent).
In addition to tomatoes, the past year saw a steady export focus on vegetables, melons, and fruits. So far in 2024, around 13,000 tons of peas, 6,000 tons of onions, and 4,000 tons of various fruits and grapes have been exported. The country also shipped substantial amounts of confectionery, packaged vegetables, melons, and soft drinks to nearby nations.
To facilitate this export growth, Turkmenistan has enhanced its customs procedures, with a special emphasis on automation. The introduction of the "Single Window for Export-Import Operations" in 2024 has allowed businesses to handle export documentation electronically, making the process quicker and more efficient, thus saving valuable time for exporters.
