TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 19. Uzbekistan has started the construction of several wind farms in Karakalpakstan, Trend reports.
According to the Uzbek president's office, the ball is rolling on the construction of a 1 gigawatt wind farm worth a whopping $1.2 billion, set to be built by China's Sany Renewable in Kungrad district.
In the second project, which is valued at $250 million, Saudi ACWA Power and Beruni and Karauzak districts will build a wind farm with a capacity of 200 MW and an energy storage system capable of storing 100 MW.
In the future, these facilities will generate 4.2 billion kWh of green energy per year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of 1.7 million households. As a result, about 1.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be saved, and emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by almost 2 million tons.
Furthermore, 10 large wind farms with a total capacity of 10.3 gigawatts are planned to be built in Karakalpakstan through direct investments of $11 billion by 2030. Once fully operational, these projects will generate 35 billion KWh of green energy per year.
Meanwhile, foreign investors and local entrepreneurs have come together to form a total of 124 projects in Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan, with a combined worth of $9.5 billion. Companies from such countries as China, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Russia, and Spain are investing in the projects. The projects include energy, heating, mining, chemicals, construction materials, services, and other sectors.
