BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25. Iran imported about 11.9 million tons of essential goods (corn, rice, soybeans, edible oils, etc.) worth $7.32 billion during six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Customs Administration shows that Iran's imports of necessary products decreased by 5 percent in value and increased by 7.6 percent in weight compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through September 22, 2023). During the same period last year, Iran imported 11 million tons of essential products worth $7.7 billion.
Iran mainly exported 4.88 million tons of corn worth $1.52 billion, 1.37 million tons of various kinds of oilseeds worth $941 million, 1.54 million tons of pressed soybeans worth $915 million, and 696,000 tons worth $724 million, and imported various kinds of edible products. oil, 500,000 tons of rice worth about $560 million during the six months.
Furthermore, Iran imported 683,000 tons of various types of red meat worth $739 million, 98,100 tons of tires for heavy-duty vehicles worth $334 million, 1 million tons of barley worth $240 million, 160,000 tons of chemical fertilizers worth $165 million, and 134,000 tons of paper dough (pulp) worth $148 million during the six months.
During the six months, 27,000 tons of dry tea worth $134 million, 128,000 tons of school supplies and book paper worth $134 million, 422,000 tons of wheat worth $128 million, and 81,900 tons of leguminous products worth $119 million 57,28,700 tons of chicken meat worth $48.6 million, 4,800 tons of insecticides and plant disease preparations worth $15.3 million, 4,560 tons of various kinds of seeds worth $9.37 million, and 12,000 tons of newsprint were imported.
