BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 15. Iran plans to accelerate the construction of petrochemical plants in Ilam province, located in the western part of the country, by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2025), Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister and Executive Director of the National Petrochemical Industries Company, Hassan Abbaszadeh told reporters, Trend reports.
Abbaszadeh said that the construction of the Dehloran petrochemical plant, which had been temporarily suspended, will now resume. He added that physical progress at the plant is already 50 percent complete.
Abbaszadeh also mentioned that work is ongoing to ensure the supply of fuel for the NGL 3100 plant, which processes flare gas collected from oilfields. The National Petrochemical Industries Company is working to maximize the collection of flare gas and direct it to the plant.
The Deputy Minister added that 90 percent of the supplies and equipment for the Dehloran Petrochemical Company’s olefin plant have already been secured.
Iran currently has 72 petrochemical enterprises. The potential of petrochemical production is 96 million tons per year.
To note, Iran plans to invest $24 billion over the next five years to establish 61 new petrochemical facilities, with a total production capacity of 35 million tons per year.
The country has set a goal to increase its petrochemical production to 186 million tons over the next decade.
