BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. A copper concentrate plant has been licensed for operation in Iran’s northwestern Ardabil Province, Masoud Irani, Director General of the Industry, Mine and Trade Department of Ardabil Province (SMT Department), told reporters, Trend reports.
Irani stated that the license for the plant was issued by the SMT Department, and the facility has been constructed in Meshginshahr district, close to a polymetallic ore deposit.
He noted that the plant will have the capacity to produce 10,000 tons of copper concentrate annually.
The provincial official also highlighted that Meshginshahr holds around 370 million tons of polymetallic ore. The produced copper concentrate will either be supplied to domestic production facilities or exported. The commissioning of the plant is expected to turn Ardabil province into one of Iran’s key copper production hubs.
"The Sahib Divan mine in Meshginshahr is the second-largest deposit in the northwest of the country after the Sungun copper mine. In addition to copper, gold is also found in this deposit," he added.
A total of 200 mining licenses have been issued in Ardabil province, most of which are for extracting construction material minerals.
